Rebuilding My Photography Business After Motherhood
I’m sitting here in the wild, humbling position of restarting my photography business from scratch. No clients. No momentum. Just me, a camera, and a world that feels completely different than it did ten years ago. The internet has shape-shifted into something I barely recognize, and half the time I feel like I’m learning a new language just to keep up.
After two kids, eight years of parental brain fog, and all the twists and turns life throws at a person, I’m not who I used to be. I look at my old portfolio, full of beautiful images, and they just don’t hit the same anymore. They’re lovely, but they don’t feel like me. Not the me who has lived a whole life since then. Not the me who sees things differently now.
And maybe I’m a little crazy for trying to build a business in a world that moves this fast, in a time when media and technology feel like shifting sand. But here’s the truth: now that my perspective has changed, I want to share it. I want to photograph the things that speak to me, the wind‑blown moments, the honest ones, the ones that feel like childhood and motherhood and Montana air. I want to build something that reflects who I am today, not who I was before everything changed.
So I’m starting over. Not from nothing, but from a deeper place. From lived experience. From softness. From grit. From the kind of clarity that only comes after years of feeling foggy.
If you’re here watching me rebuild, thank you. If you’re here because you feel a shift in your own life, welcome. There’s room for both of us to begin again.
